2003 F115 Battery not charging.. stator bad ??

An acquaintance has the same model 2003 Yamaha F115 as I do. He was having problem with battery running down after running for a while. Happening again after replacing battery. Multiple trips to shop. Finally determine that stator (charging system) was bad and repaired under warranty. <br /><br />I also had a drained battery recently after sitting for a week. Is this a common problem? Recalls or service bulletins?

Hi,<br />I have a F115 (2003). I have used same battery since utboard was new (3 seasons now). I have no problem with battery drained. I can not tell if it is a common problem.<br />There are many reasons a battery can drain.<br /><br />Did the repair help to cure the problem with the outboard Your acquaintance has?

Big concern for me as I do coastal cruising. Always worried about battery with Fish Finder, Radio and Chart Plotter. My marina put in a duplicate battery. I start/cruise on both and alternate between both batteries at fishing point. Fantastic worry reliever. Cost for all new battery and connections and installation $162.00 which I thought was fair. When putting boat in slip I always turn switch (after motor is off) to OFF. Bilge pump wired direct so would work if excessive rain.<br /><br />Ole Sarge
