This will probably be a debate. Are they much different in design than original? More than likely, no re-tune is required with just a reed replacement.

You will have to richen up the idle as one snneze and they are toast, CCM reeds are better and will last longer....

Thanks for the reply's!! I havent recieved the valves yet I should be getting them in a few days, but in the pics they look about the same as the factory reeds. Ive owned the motor for about three years and everytime I check the spark plugs they are wet with fuel so im thinking the motor is already a little on the rich side. My buddy is a marine mechanic and owns his own shop he told me to get Boyesen he said thats all he uses on all the motors he rebuilds and hes never had any problems with them. Hes out of town and I cant get a hold of him so I figured you guys would know if any adjustments or tweeking is needed

IMO Boyesens are junk as they last about 3 years and then they start splitting and breaking as they are 2 stage reeds not single like factory. Whats wrong with your stock reeds as they do not go bad unless phyically damaged or broke. The Boyesens instructions tell you you must increase richen jet size by .002 or adjust needle richer and their warranty does not cover this damage from lean "pops"

Finally got around to pulling my my intake and carbs off to get to the reeds. I have 1 reed completely missing and 2 other reeds that are chipped at the top all and carbon build up on the same reed block all the other reed blocks are clean and like new. What would cause that?
