I let the oil reservior run low and then filled it with the Amsoil AIO oil!!!Didn't really notice a difference, but now when idling I have a lite squeal coming from some where under the engine cowl!!! It sounds like a loose fan belt!!!Is the oil injection pump going south on me !!! Sould I be Worried!!! What to do or what should I be looking for!!!

Hi there, smoker

never heard of a fanbelt in a 2-stroke outboard...did you use TCW 3 2-stroke engine oil?

Who told your Amsoil (Scamsoil) was good oil? An Amsoil dealer I bet. I wouldn't use that stuff on my claw hammer. The only thing I can think of that would make the noise you describe is the upper crankshaft bearing.

Being a minor part of the costs of running a boat, there is good reason to buy either Merc's oil or any that you trust from others' experience. A search on this forum should point out some.

The Amsoil is specified this way:

-is recommended for use in all summer and winter two-cycle injector applications and for pre-mix applications at 50:1 mix ratios. Use AMSOIL Synthetic 2-Cycle Injector Oil wherever TC-W3 or API TC oils are specified in water-cooled or air-cooled motors.
AMSOIL Synthetic 2-Cycle Injector Oil is compatible with other synthetic and petroleum TC-W3 type oils and may be mixed with them.

This indicates that the oil is designed for ie. your motor. If oil quality is not good, one could expect damages after some use. If you experience the described problem immediately after filling the oil tank, I'd susoect something else. A 2003 motor is under warranty so a visit to the dealer should be the first thing to do. For what it's worth, this link is to Amsoil's Warranty page

One way or the other it seems to be covered by warranty, if you can get it.
