I was recently looking at a 2003 25 hp 4 stroke that seemed to be low on power.
On this engine, a single coil pack supplies power to each cylinder. I noted that the top coil output wire went to the top cylinder's spark plug and the bottom coil output wire went to the bottom cylinder's spark plug.
On another 25 4 stroke, in the past, I observed the opposite to be true, so I questioned the timing and reversed the coil to plug wires.
The engine fired right up and ran just as well under load as initially wired.
So I am off to identify the correct wiring configuration, but in the meantime, can anyone comment on why the engine ran so well, let alone started?
Completely surprised.
