I have a 2003 Mercury 3.3 HP outboard that I bought from someone off craigslist. The telltale was clogged which I fixed and the carburetor looks brand new. I had a tech fix the clogged telltale and he didn't notice anything else wrong with the engine.
When I took the engine out on the water after idling for like a good 5-10 minutes. It works fine at low speeds but when I increase the throttle the engine hesitates and slowly dies out. Now if I play with choke and throttle I can get it to go very fast but its like a careful dance.
Any idea what is causing this? I am moving and want to sell it but I refuse to sell something that might not be operating properly. What is also the best oil and ratio for this engine?
