2003 motor tilt&trim yamaha

I'm taking a Mo. river trip this summer as I understand the motor has no tilt if you hit an underwater object is there any way to bypass this system or unhook to prevent damage to motor or boat ??????2003 yamaha 40 hp 2cyl. elect.t&t remote

There is a bypass valve located in the T&T system so if you hit something, it will allow fluid to bypass and the unit will raise. Now, depending on how hard the object is that you are hitting, determines if you still have something on the bottom of the engine to raise.
