Hello-
I bought a used 4 stroke 2003 nissan 25hp outboard and have a lot of difficulty getting it started. The squeeze bulb is firm, vent on tank open, and kill switch lanyard engaged. The motor has thirty hours on it and is mint condition. Once the motor runs, it restarts effortlessly and runs perfectly. I really feel like I'm not getting fuel into the carbs. I think if it were a manuel choke than this wouldn't be an issue. Anybody have any advice. Thanks-Rich

A few generic thoughts. If it is remote start some motors you push in the key to choke. There may be a lever or a release so you can advance the throttle in neutral. Some you pull the lever outward so you can adevance the throttle.
Under the hood some motors have a small switch like lever sometimes red you turn for manual choke(prime).I believe there is an on position off position and automatic position.I'm sure someone will be along with more specific info.

I have the same motor, and have experienced the same issue. I use mine year-round, and have noticed that I typically experience this in colder weather. During this winter, I took it out in 15-30 degree temps, and had a really hard time starting it. Like you said, after it ran, it started right up again. Yesterday it was around 60 degrees out, and despite sitting for about 3 weeks without running, it started right up. I don't think it's an issue with your specific motor, but maybe a general issue with the motor being sensitive to low temperatures. I'm definitely not an expert on this, so if anyone knows of another cause, I'm all ears.

Normal for 4-stroke engines in a cold environment, but run it by a local dealer and have them check it.

If your 25hp is the remote model, before starting it for the first time, especially on colder mornings, try lifting the 'warm-up lever' up and down 5-6 times. If you have the tiller handle model, twist the accelator grip back and forth to full power & idle 5-6 times first. Then try cranking it. Should fire right up if you do this technique first.

The 25/30hp 4str. carbureted models have an 'accelator pump' on each of the carbs that basically pumps the fuel to the carburetor. If it's cold or the motor has been sitting a few days, using the above technique will force the accelator pump to squirt some fuel into the carbs (basically 'priming it') making it easier to start.

If you have the new 'EFI' 25 4str model, you shouldn't have any problem starting it on cold days or after it's been sitting idle for a few days.

Give this a try and let the group/forum know how it worked.

I have the same problem on my Nissan 18 hp 4 stroke. Stumbled into the same solution - 'pumping' the throttle to allow the accelerator pump to put some fuel in the intake. It works great and now I can start the motor on cool mornings.

It was almost impossible to start before I figured this out.

Good luck
