Alright, got to the lake today, trimmed the motor down, go to start the boat and the engine cranks over and immediately I hear the click of the starter, the bilge blower stops, nothing. Battery is dead. Luckily another boater was kind enough to hand me his spare battery to use so I could trim the outdrive back up to get off the ramp.

So, I drive the 20 miles over to the one marina which has their service shop open on Sundays and pick up a brand new Interstate battery (I'm sure I paid too much for this battery - but I wanted to go boating today) I installed the battery in their parking lot and then proceeded around the corner to another boat ramp. I hop in the boat and flip on the bilge blower and I hear it running no problem. Back the boat into the water, jump in, turn the key to the "ON" position and I never hear the beeps from the engine monitor that you're supposed to hear. Engine won't crank, it makes no sounds at all when you turn the key.

The following electrical items work:
- bilge blower
- nav/acc lights (including all dash illumination)
- transom shower water pump (ACC switch)

The following electrical items do not work regardless of key position.
- horn
- radio (factory kenwood)
- engine ignition.

I replaced the 10A fuse inline with the ignition switch. All the other fuses seem to be for auxiliary functions (horn, radio, lights, acc, blower, etc) any I don't see any of the larger fuses I am used to seeing on vehicles under the hood for the engine itself, where would these be located?

The battery switch is "ON", I have pushed in the "50" breaker next to the battery switch (to no effect - doesn't seem to be tripped) and checked every fuse. Where should I go from here?

It sounds to me like there's more than one cable that attaches to the positive terminal of your battery, and you never connected one of them. I would look for a disconnected cable hiding somewhere near the battery.

Did you clean the battery cables good before you re-installed them. This would be my first suspect.

Re: 2003 Regal 2200 Electrical Problems...

OK, I figured out the cause of the problem, and I am almost ashamed to admit it. I had the battery leads reversed on the new battery, I feel like such a bonehead for making such a simple mistake because I really should know better and I am usually more careful. I guess I was just too excited to get out on the water and didn't pay close enough attention to what I was doing (there were too many bikinis bouncing around the marina.)

I reconnected the battery correctly and more things work now. The horn and courtesy lights (LEDs on the inside) now work. However the engine and the radio still do not. Since these are the only things which care dependent on the ignition switch, I plan on checking that tomorrow night after work since I forgot my multimeter today.

I'm hoping it is something as easy (and cheap) as the Ignition switch, I'm dreading what a new computer for the engine will cost if it turns out I fried that.
