Yesterday I was Running my 2003, 22' Wellcraft with 200hp carb. mercury o/b when I heard the beep continuosly, inmediatly stop the boat and check the instruments but aparently everything was fine, suddenly the engine stop and start to come black smoke from the engine. It smell like electrical fire and I disconect the batteries and wait extinguisher on hand until smoke gone. Thanks to God nothing happens but when I open the engine cap "ALL" the wire harness was burned. If anyone knows about other case like this please let me know, any campaing or service recall or just other similar experiece.
P.S. The engine is less than 100 hours use and well maintened. Thanks

Ive seen a Merc 150 that burned up. One of the high current leads on the motor was routed over a sharp edge & wore through creating a short. Cooked every wire on it. Last I heard of it he was fighting with his insurance over damages.

In first instance I thougt something like that happens, but when inspected the engine at the marina ,it seems like if any compenent near the area of the volt. reg. overheat and start melting the wires around, that's the reason for my post because I never saw something like that and I'm looking for some other similar case or presedent, service bulletin, recall or is just bad luck to me.
