2003 yamaha 250 hpdi

i have a 2003 yamaha 250hpdi and the temp gauge keeps blinking indicating overheating but the motor isn't hot..even when you turn the key on it blinks..it will run up until a certain rpm then shut the motor down..then you can turn off the key and restart and go again..i should say this is on a 32ft angler with twin 250's..i have changed the water pump,thermostats,all temp sensors,and new temp guage and still the same problem..i've had it at a shop and on the computer and they couldn't find anything wrong...help...thanks

have them double check the dip switch settings on the tach.
even an overheat wont shut the engine off.
it will lock it to about 2000 RPM max and make it shake.
lets get the tach issue done then on to the other issue.

thanks..i checked the dip switches and they were wrong..i set them and the light went out but i worked too late today, so i will try it out on the water tomorrow..again thanks..

well i finally got to test out the boat..i had some personal issues i had to attend to.thats why the long time..anyway i ran it today and the motor is doing the same thing..up to 4500 and it shuts down..actually it'll run higher but then after ran for just a short while it'll stumble and shut down..you can turn the key off and on and crank right back up and then it'll do it again..the other motor runs perfect..thanks..

check fuel system vacum at the lift pump intake,clean the VST filter,replace the medium pressure inline filter and replace the lift pumps. retest.

Rodbolt your the man..had to save a little money up but its running perfect..i replaced vst,inline filters,and lift pumps..actually had some help..i was in over my head..runs like a charm now..thanks alot..
