2004 mercury with a (yamaha mtr) 225 4 stroke engine alarm comes on at 5000rpms

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I brought my boat in for service two weeks ago with this problem of the engine alarm coming on at 5000rpms then goes to reduced ower...back off the thottle and it seems normal untill about 5-10mins of running time then have the same problem......not over heating new water pump temp gage normal range and good flow......service mgr says that the oil pump relief valve is at fault.....two weeks(today) later i get a phone call from service mgr and he said the new oil pump did not fix my motor.....never had a problem with this mtr always been maintained...any ideas of what it could be? Was told that the next step was for a total tear down of motor I only have 300hrs on the motor... any ideas? also was told that the engine has to be torn completly done to find a possible sourse of an oil blockage of course my engine warranty just ended less than 60 days ago lost in fla with out my boat

could be many things but I doubt an engine tear down will be needed.
overpressure can set an oil alarm as well as lack of oil pressure.
over pressures are checked with the laptop and usually are caused by the oil pressure sender going bad.
could also be the oil sender 5V reference going bad.
have someone run it with the laptop attached until it alarms, at the moment it alarms hit the save button on the laptop, usually F2.
this will record a minute by minute of ECU monitored engine functions for the past 13 minutes. then post a copy of the date download printout.
look on the dealerships wall for 4 stroke, advanced fourstroke and master technician certificates.
if they dont have them then find a dealer in your area that does using the Yamaha dealer locator web site.

good infromation........service said that the oil pressure at idle should be 3psi and that the readings they got were too high......and then droping to low pressures at 5000rpms i asked them where they got their readings from and they said they removed the oil pressure sending unit to do the checks...

O ELL NO.
quick find a real real dealer before they smoke your motor and wallet.
either take it to a dealer that has a master tech or sell it for what you can get.
ya just CANNOT do that on the F225.
the ECU has a map that is looking for a specific voltage feedback from the sensors 5V reference at ANY given RPM range.
to high or to low of a voltage for the engine RPM and "poof" you get an alarm.
trust me find a dealership that sends techs to school.
just for a reference the MINIMUM oil pressure at idle is about 94 PSI on that engine.
if your indoubt that the fluing monkeys are fixin to grab ya, simply ask them the procedure to simply test the oil alarm, if a resistor isnt mentioned smile politly and go find a real shop.
BTW page 5-15 of the F225 service manual may be handy for them.
