Hello, Hello,

I went out and bought me a new boat last month, a 2004 Boston Whaler 130 Sport to replace my 12ft Aluminum with an 84 Merc 9.8 (Finally imploded..) I bought it second hand from the original owner, he got it from an authorized dealer who put the whole package together: boat, motor and trailer.

It came with a 2004 25hp Merc Bigfoot. The boat itself is rated for a 40hp, and some have already said it's likely to be underpowered. I'm okay with this as I'm not looking for a speedboat...Some have also said the bigfoot is the wrong motor for this boat aswell. I'll be putting it through it's paces next week and see how it performs speedwise. I'm happy with efficiency over speed.

Infact, I dont know if I can upgrade to the 40hp, according to the Merc website, the 40hp EFI weighs in at 214lbs. I'm not sure, but I thought the max motor weight the transom is rated for was 200lbs. (I'm storing the boat elsewhere so I can't check that right now).

I have two questions. First, would it be worth it to upgrade to the 40hp in the future? I'm mostly going to be using the boat for crabbing/prawning and lake fishing with 2-3 max people onboard.

Second, the motor had it's last "annual servicing" in May 2009, and I'm told it was run for less than 10hr in 2010. The motor looks spotless, and supposedly less than 100 hours in total on it. What kind of work should be done on it this spring so I can get a full worry free summer out of it?

:confused:Thoughts?

Thanks!
