My owner's manual has the audacity to say leave the oil filter change up to the dealer...sigh. Maybe I should since I don't know where the filter is at!

Seriously though, I forget which side cover conceals it and if there are any gotchas associated with changing it...?

Is that the 115HP Suzuki? If so, the oil filter shows as #15 on the oil pump diagram in the BRP parts catalog for your motor. BRP Parts Catalogs

You will find that the right side has to be un-screwed first. This is the side the filter is on. A NAPA 1396 @ $6.13 filter works fine if you don't have a Johnson or Suzuki. Let us know how you do :D

Item #15 is just a drawing of a filter - it isn't in relation to where it is installed on the engine. Great diagram BRP!

I have a filter, just wanted to confirm the location before I start peeling off covers.

Thanks!

Thought you might want the part number since you said before that you can't get to a dealer. Anyway the rest of the motor's there as well if you took the time to look.

All these months and you still haven't bought a service manual for your motor. Just too easy to waste other peoples time isn't it - especially when it's free.

It sure would help if we knew the model number (or at the very least, what horsepower). i.e. not all engines use a spin on filter...

-John

I guess if I had the new oil filter in hand and the cowl off the engine I could identify the oil filter that's on the engine. Ain't many places it can hide on a 4 cylinder outboard engine.
