Hey everyone I just purchased this 2004 Larson 230 LXI. I got a great deal and the boat runs well. The steering is not great. I have to turn the wheel hard to the right to keep it straight or to turn right but as soon as I let go of the wheel it wants to turn hard left. Any thing I can do to fix this?

also my throttle shift cable may be bad because it’s not easy going back and forth from forward to reverse. I didn’t see a number on the cable but I measured around 15ft so I got a 16ft cable. I can’t find any manuals because the motor decal kind of rubbed off so I don’t know exact engine. Maybe it’s the 5.0GXI-E? Is anyone familiar with my circumstances and this boat and motor?

this is the cable I ordered along with some pics of the boat. Thank you

Larson built their boats with Mercruiser or Volvo Penta stern drives. Which do you have? This information as well as the specific engine and drive models are needed to get much help on this forum.

I included in the post the possible engine model number. Volvo penta 5.0GXI-E. I posted the pic with the sticker mainly rubbed off :(

I finished the shifter cable install. The one I ordered in the above post, fit perfectly. Was the exact same length as the previous cable.

I have now moved on to my steering/control cable. Steering is not that great on the water. Very hard to turn right and will whip to the left if I let go of the steering wheel. I am going to purchase a new 17’ steering cable. My 2004 Larson 230 has a “back mount rack system sea star solutions 3950210” is this what I should replace it with or are there other options that would give me better results? Maybe a rotary steering kit?
