Hello all,

Just finished installing and hooking up a 2004 Merc 5.0 MPI (Serial: 0W041535) to my 95 Pro-line 211.
After the engine installation i did not change the old plugs or oil.
I took it out a few time and it did not go past 1500 - 2000 RPM's.
Had the mechanic run the diagnostic and found two codes, had the mechanic service the engine for the two codes that showed up.
When back out to test the engine and it still wont go past 1500 RPM's.
My oil pressure reads just a pinch under 40 at idle and a bit more when I'm in gear.
I filled it up with 30 Gallons of 92 gas prior to running the engine, it has a hair of gas left before i put in the 30 Gallons.
At this point I'm not sure what to do, dont want to keep throwing money at the mechanic and not solving the problem.
Any help/info would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

HI there, need some pass history as to what engine was in the boat before? What stern drive model and what gear ratio?
Do you now if the boat has a warning horn from original and is it connected to the new engine? If so, do you hear a warning horn?
What type of noises do you hear when trying to go above 2000 RPM if any?
You may want to start with fuel pressure which there is a fuel schrader valve on top of the fuel rail for easy access.

0W041535 = Service Literature for MERCRUISER 5.0L MPI ALPHA FWC DR ENG ONLY 5.0L ALPHA MPI. Here is this engine parts catalog if needed, http://www.iboats.com/5-0L-MPI-ALPHA-BRAVO-0M600000-THRU-0W059999/dm/view_id.1683333

It sounds like it could be in guardian mode. Did they clear the old codes? How much of the old engine/drive was kept?

Thanks for the info.
I am not sure what type of vessel the engine had previous powered.
Currently the drive that is on the engine is a Alpha one gen two (1:47). Dont have the model number.
When i first ran the engine and it did not go past 1500 rpms. I herd two beeps.
After that i had my mechanic run the diagnostic and found two codes. Since then, he serviced the engine for the two codes.
The second time i took the boat out and it did not go past 1500 rpms, i did not hear any beeps.
Its a rough sound when i try to go past 1500-2000 rpms.
Not fimiliar with the fuel schradar, will look into ti.

Thanks.

Ayuh,..... Sounds like it's starvin' for fuel,....

Pull the fuel filter, 'n inspect it's contents, then slap on a new one, 'n try it,....

What killed yer ole motor,..??

Are ya gonna tell Us what the 2 codes were that indicated something needed fixin',..??
What were the somethings,..??

Will def pull and replace the fuel filter.
I got the hull without a motor and purchased the motor separately.

I don't remember exactly what the codes were. One was for a shift interrupt switch. The other I don't remember.

Update: ok, so I've changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, oil and Coolant.
Still no change.
Through the process of elimination I've concluded that's its a timing issue.
The problem is now that my timing is not adjustable.
Not sure what to do.
Called Mercruiser, they said they will get back to me by Tuesday....
Really wanted to be on the water this weekend.
