Hello, I suppose the Guru will hold this answer. I am considering buying a 2004 Merc 25HP carbed, two stroke, elec start, longshaft remote locally from a friend and was wondering if this was in the line that Tohatsu made for Mercury? If so, can the simple 25HP-30HP conversion be performed on the gasket behind the carb like on the Nissan/Tohats or not? I checked the weight on NADA for this motor and was listed at 114lbs which seems much heavier than any 25HP that Tohat ever produced for a carbed two stroke in this HP. If Tohatsu makes this motor, what accounts for this extra weight? Sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance for the help.

I'm pretty sure that Tohatsu didn't make that model for Mercury. They only started making the 25/30 hp models when it went to the 4-stroke models. I don't know if they made their own 25hp 2str or got it from someone else, but pretty sure it's not a Tohatsu made model.

If your in the U.S. the answer is a firm no. However, Mercury has been using the Tohatsu 25 2-stroke for many years in other markets.
