2004 or 2005?

If the Yamaha outboard motors are manufactured on 05-04 and 06-04 are they considered 2004 or 2005?

When I purchased my new Yamaha this summer North River told me it was a 2005. It has a 05/04 on it for a date. It will make it easier when I sell the boat to call it a 2005 so I am going with that!<br /><br />SeaRun1

it goes by the date code in the model number. the manufacture date is not relevant.

Rodbolt is correct, but engines made in May or June would be 2005 models since they would not be likely to reach dealers until after the model year change over. It does take some time to be shipped to this country and then reshipped to the dealers.
