New boat to me 2004 procraft 20ft bassboat with 1998 mercury EFI. No hole shot, takes off like in overdrive and takes 30 sends to get up on place which it does at about 12 mph. Boat has procraft jackplate and 14” trophy 25 pitch 4 blade prop. Boat runs good up on plane and has torque when hit from half throttle to full throttle while on plane. Top speed about 55mph at 5400 rpm. Do I have the right prop? Prop has 4 plugs in, all with about 1/4 hole in each of them. Ideas?

a 25" pitch prop is too tall for most applications. However, your story is strange that you do get high performance.

Is it possible the cylinders are loading up with fuel at idle, causing the motor to foul a plug and have to clear this fouling before she can take off? That can happen on a carb motor with a mechanical fuel pump. Not sure about your EFI fuel pump.

Do you see fuel in the water while idling?

No fuel. I just put in new fuel pump because it went out completely, but new and old pump seemed to perform the same. It has a hot foot, I could rev it up a bit before I launch, that would clear up any load up issue while idling if that was it

Ok just asked the previous owner if he had changed props. He said no, but then replied that he did have the hub changed. Does the hub have anything to do with prop venting or just the prop itself?

The Hub change should not affect the prop. I am presuming the prop is the right size for the motor? That is, it fits snug to the gearcase, so no gap for exhaust to escape, right?
