Hey folks,

We are looking to get into a bigger boat and have fallen in love with the one in the title. It is a 2004 with 8.1 VP injection 375HP with 380hours. What should we look for specifically with this boat? If not this one, we will find another Rinker 282. Love the layout. Obviously bigger than our current vessel. Looking for any and all advice.

Thanks!
Rod.

I have a 2004 Rinker Captiva 232. I don't know how much the two boats differ but I tell you about mine.
I like it but I think they wasted a lot or storage space in the design. There's a lot of places that are hollow but not accessible. Also, access to the front of the engine is impossible. It's slammed right up against the bulkhead behind the rear bench seat. Changing the raw water impeller is going to be a real chore, probably involving removing part of the boat interior.
I've got the Mag 350 with 300 HP and a B3. It's certainly adequate with a full 75 gallons of fuel and 12 passengers. But, more HP sure would be nice. I would think the 375 BB would be awesome on my boat. I would guess with the added weight of the 282 plus even more gear and passengers it may be back to adequate.
I really like the deep freeboard because I have small children and it keeps them in. The boat has been solid with no real problems other than the tach stopped working twice. That's not Rinker's fault, that's the gauge makers fault.

Giant bow riders are terrific. You will enjoy that one. I have a Sea Ray 270 Sundeck, and wouldn't change a thing about it.

282 with the 8.1 would be a nice set up. We have a 232 & find it is a great set up for us. Big enough without being too big. Have several friends that jumped to bigger boats with 8.1 motors this year. Very happy with them but they have all said they are thirsty. One went from a 232 like mine with the 350 & said new boat with 8.1 goes thru about 2x the gas. Makes me like mine even better. What are you towing with?

Thanks for the feedback! I tow with a 2019 F350 Diesel. Shouldn't be an issue. ;-)

At least towing would not be a problem with F350. That being said it seems alot of people are scared off on some of the bigger boats like the 282 which should allow you to make a better deal. How many hours? I'd want to see service records for maintenance. How often was drive serviced? Impeller? Etc...
