2004 Tohatsu 40hp Cooling and other stuff

Hey guys

New to the Honda/Tohatsu side of Iboats.

I have a friend that has a 2004 Tohatsu 40HP. ( This is a 2004 motor right?)
Gave me 3 numbers

1) M40C

2)361A

3)92257 (Stamped) on metal plate

Iv'e done my 150 XR4 merc cooling before, so I feel comfortable 'digging' in.

He needs cooling system re-vamped.
Does this motor have a poppit valve?
How many thermostats?
And Im gonna need some basic torque values for the water pump job, please.

Also , he wants to paint his engine to match the boat, which is white. What kind of paint should he get? Fuel/Oil resistant?

If he has some extra coin gonna grab a service manual, but for now I can do it with 'your' help with the torque values and such.

Basiclly trying to save cash right now. I'm helping him fix his outboard and he's helping me with my central A/C to my house.

So far found this, is this the right pump kit?

361-87322-0 Water Pump Repair Kit M25C2 & C3 /M30A3 & A4 /M40C (2-Stroke)

You need a service manual before you mess up something on your friends engine.

"This is a 2004 motor right?"

Years aren't used for much as part application is determined by the model number. To get the year you would need to contact Tohatsu at info@tohatsu.com

No

One

Not needed

I doubt I'd mess anything up.

Reason why I wanted confirmation that it was a 2004 is that the out side appearance makes you think the motor is older. Inside cowling and performance of engine is a diffrent story.

I know about the mod and serial. I often joke to my friends...."Hell get me the model and serial number off the space shuttle.... and I'll get her going little by little!"

Went to http://www.tohatsuoutboardparts.com/ and Looked up M40C(which is the model) 2-stroke. Is that the right water pump kit in earlier post?

Good news on poppit...one less thing to worry/trouble shoot.

And we're going to try and get a manual....even if I have to chip in.

I think this motor is older than my first reseach...

mabey early 90's... anyway I shot Tohatsu a email.
