Hello all,

I joined the forum to ask some questions about a boat /motor that's been sitting for almost 20 months without being started. Today is day one that I have it, and the first problem I have encountered is the trim/tilt system.

2004 Yamaha 115 4-stroke. Battery is brand new. When I push the buttons to tilt the motor (both on the motor and the throttle) the relays click and the small tilt motor makes noise like it's trying to lift/lower the motor, but nothing moves. I didn't see any leaks, but I still topped off the hydraulic fluid. This did not give me any results.

If anyone has a suggestion about what to check next, I would appreciate the advice. From what I've read it could be the relay, but would the electric tilt motor still have power if the relays were bad?

Thanks again, everybody.

if the T&T motor is running but not moving the T&T then I would check the manual release screw to make sure it is closed off

Thanks for your reply. The manual release screw is so tight and slightly corroded that I'm unable to move it in either direction. I am planning on borrowing a larger flathead screwdriver from a family member to try again - afraid of stripping the screw with my current tool.

I should also mention that the motor is currently up, sitting on the small transom saver kickstand.

A buddy of mine who has a similar motor said to tap the t and t motor with a hammer. This worked for me, but he also advised I should probably go ahead and replace the t and t motor as this is a sign it will fail soon.

Can anyone comment on this?
