2005 1902 Trophy alarm question

On my last outing I was receiving an alarm(buzzer) from inside the dash. Found the small black buzzer. Electrical drawings show it to be hooked up to the rpm, volt, speed guages, as well as the engine harness. When getting the alarm I noticed my rpm's would be high compared to the speed (10 knots would be anwhere from 3200 to 4000 rmps) That's the only visual cause I saw. The temp and volts seemed normal. I am running a mercury salt water 150 ob. Normal cooling water operating temp is 145 deg. There is no guage for this, so I test the water comming out of the telltale. The oil level is also normal. Anything I'm over looking? When I go back to netural and go inside to check the alarm stops. If I keep the rpm's at 3000 (9-10 knots) I don't get an alarm. Throttle any higher it will go off. Thanks for any info.

Re: 2005 1902 Trophy alarm question

Your engine is in guardian mode. something has triggered the alarm. Rule out all the basics first. Water Pressure, Oil went to low and drained engine reservoir, air in the oil delivery system, check valve stuck or sticky, prime fuel bulb etc...

2 distinct alarms, steady beep is more often a sensor or major engine alarm.

Intermittent alarm beeps are usually oil related.

after the basics it could one of many sensors. The alarm is triggered by fault codes and could be water temp sensor, water pressure sensor, 2 throttle position sensors, bad air injector etc....

If it had you stumped have a mercury tech run a diagnostic to locate the problem. Pretty certain you have a sensor triggering your alarm.

good luck

Re: 2005 1902 Trophy alarm question

Thanks for the reply. I've gone thru my whole cooling system (minus the poppet valve) and am in the process of getting a new engine oil sensor cap. If I still get the alarm when I test it than I'll bring it in to a merc tech. Thanks again.

I'm considering buying a left-over 2005 1902 with the same engine. Please tell me how you like the boat. Has it been good to you?

low gear oil alarm

You sure? That's been the back of my mind. So, I did an oil change on it. I have the shop repair manual and can't find information on the different alarms.

Well, my last thing I checked before bringing it in for a diognaustics test is the poppet valve. It all looks good. When I get the gaskets today to put it back together I'll test the boat this weekend under load.
The things I did
1) Inspect and replace the engine oil cap sensor
2) Drain, flush and replace the gear oil
3) Remove both thermostats and flush
4) Remove and inspect poppet valve.
5) Remove and replace water impellar, upper housing, and gaskets.

So far I have not found a solid problem. We'll see this weekend if any of these were the source of the alarm.

Thanks for your help guys.

the high RPM's and low speed kind of sounds like sparkplugs....that was the exact case I had...but mine was an I/O

Re: 2005 1902 Trophy alarm question

Well the last two things I did:

1) Re-assembled the poppet valve
2) Remove the oil cap/sensor on the engine oil tank, start the motor and let the level fill to the point of over flowing before replacing the cap. A trick someone told me.

I took the boat out today at Lake Perris and ran @ 1/4 throttle to WOT for about two hours and did not get the alarm :). I re-installed the offshore bait tank and will take it out paddy hopping the day after tomorrow.

So if anyone else has the same alarm issue, these are the steps that I took to correct the alarm. As I did them all before testing, I'm not really sure which course of action I took fixed it. Hope putting this up helps someone else out.

Thanks to all that had some input on what was causing my problem.

Re: 2005 1902 Trophy alarm question

Sometimes I heard the alarm going off on my 2004 1802WA 4-cyl 4-stroke 115 HP, and I aslo thought that RPM was little higher than usual for the speed of the boat. As I remember it happened on water with lots of seaweed/kelp bed area. The alarm sound lasted only a few seconds, no more than 3 seconds or so, and it turned off by itself. I am thinking seaweed or something was blocking the water intake and the engine got hot, triggering the heat sensor. And when the debris dislodged itselft, the engine temp went down and the alarm shut off. Since then, I avoided such seaweed/kelp bed area and never had the alram going off again.
