Quicksilver Premium Gear Lubricant is what the book says to use 14.9 oz is what you need to refill your lower.
Any good Gear lube rated for underwater service. You can order the lube from iboats if you want. Napa has Quicksilver oils here also. Just make sure
you get a good Gear lube.

I am sorry I wasn't clear, I have a couple of boat places not to far away. What I need to know is where on the motor itself to put and drain the oil. From what I understand it is a grease that goes into a zerk fitting and is pushed out another location.

Re: 2005 25hp 4 stroke bigfoot questions

There are two flat head screws on the lower unit, they will both be on the same side of the lower unit, one will be flush, sunken in slightly, on the rounded area of the lower unit (towards the bow) the part I like to call the bullet head. The top plug will be directly above it about a foot, maybe less.

You need to pull the top drain plug first for safety, if you pull the bottom first high pressure could squirt you right in the face (i've never seen it but thats what merc says) and then take out the bottom screw, let it drain out until it pretty much stops draining, it tends to drain better with the engine tilted up slightly so that the bottom of the skeg is parallel to the ground. Each screw will have a little blue gasket ring that fits around the screw. Sometimes they do get stuck in the gearcase and do not come out with the screw. You should always replace these gaskets every time you change the gear oil, so make sure you get the old ones out, and put the new ones in.

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT

When you refill the gearcase YOU MUST fill from the BOTTOM TO THE TOP. If you fill from the top screw to the bottom, you risk trapping air inside, and you will think its full and its really not, you will end up running your lower unit without enough oil.

This filling procedures applys to almost all outboard lower units and I/O outdrive filling procedures with the exception of an OMC Cobra outdrive, which has three screws, and must be filled from the center screw.

Hope this helps
