Hopefully this is in the right thread.. I have a 2005 bayliner 4.3 merc .. its been running great all year.. last week it lost all power while driving (cruising speed) .. tried restarting but was completely dead.. I changed out the fuse and it started up but about two minutes into the drive it shut down again.. fuse looked to have blown.. Nothing was done to the boat out of winter and had been running good.. any suggestions?

AD.....You know ...the fuse...

@sandtrap21 help us help you

If your boat has fuses, there are probably 10 or so

If your boat has circuit breakers, there is at least 2 fuses

So what fuse blew

Sorry , The ignition fuse
Thank you
What is the motor serial number, or at least is it efi or mpi. If its carb does it have TKS?

Something is heating up and drawing more current. If its TKS might be module

Thanks
TKS carb, I'm thinking its the module right now
Get it running and warmed up if it will last that long, then disconnect the TKS carb module and see if it does ok

Just thought of something else. Originally Merc put 20 amp fuses in ignition, if you have a 15 amp, replace with 20. If it does good, its probably still the module

i started it and ran it until it shutdown. Roughly 3 min. Then disconnected the Tks , it started and ran for less then a minute then shutdown … I can continue to start it and it continues to shutdown. The fuse has not blown which is new. There is a red terminal next to the tks that is pretty hot. Not sure if that factors in but thought I’d share.

Would like to see the red terminal that is getting hot

There has been several times where the Temp switch started shorting out. Your not blowing the fuse but something is drawing enough current to drop the voltage is my guess

Thats a diode. It may ok but something is drawing to much current. If it cools down after the module is unplugged then its just the module. If it remains hot then might be the temp switch

Could fire up the motor with module unplugged and if it stays cool then its the module
