Hello, I purchased this boat last year. The stereo that it came with does not have the ipod or aux capability.
Thinking of upgrading, just trying to figure out which Sony I should go with. The boat has the driver side remote so
it would need to be compatable so the remote will still work. I have talked to a local cobalt dealership and they said
they use the same one that is currently being installed in the new boats. The only problem was he said they run around
$400. That seams a little high for just the stereo. I was thinking in the future I might want to add another remote for
the transom side. Any ideas or modles i should look at? Thanks...

Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. My 05' has an older Clarion with a remote at the helm. I wanted to upgrade for MP3 functionality as well. I decided replace it with the Sony CDX-H910UI receiver and the RM-X60M remote. I picked up both for about $250 on ebay.

I have absolutely zero experience with marine audio, but a bit with car audio...I would steer clear of Sony...not a great product. Alpine is a good one. Some higher end Pioneer, too...not sure if Pioneer does marine, though.

Sony's ok IMO. I have a factory one in my truck that's worked flawless. Also, the one unit I have for the boat has had great reviews. My reasoning for the purchase was the reviews and the optional remote at the helm, while I have the head unit in the cabin. (which is my current Clarion setup). Everything else is JL Audio.

If you're looking for ipod integration, I had a Sony with the Tune Dock feature (the ipod/iphone actually gets inserted into the stereo) in my car and it was awesome. I was thinking at the time how nice that would be for the boat. Then they released a marine version. So you might want to check it out.

The head unit I have has the USB stick option. That's what I'll be utilizing......$16 for a 32gb memory stick.....just leave it in the boat at that price.

as long as the head unit stays try i see no reason to pick between marine version versus auto.

I would personally go with something with Bluetooth so that I could leave my iPhone/ipad nicely sealed in a ziplock bag or something else water proof.
