Although I recently said that Id never have another OMC motor, I found a 2005 225 HO etec New with warranty. Very good deal but it will be 7 years old as soon as it starts, I know this. My questions are these.... can a 20" shaft be converted to a 25 without a lot of expense? Is this 225 HO engine suitable for saltwater on a center console boat? Any specific problems about this year and model that is well documented? thanks for all the help!

20" shaft is probably why its still around new in box. I wanted to convert a 20 to 25. Was a merc but just the same it was over $2500.00 just sayin, I didn't do it. Was cheaper to sell and buy a 25", though I ended up with an older motor. Probably don't want to cut your transom down if using in the ocean? There all Ok for saltwater if you keep it flushed out.

my boat has a bracket on the back so no transom mod would be needed. The boat is a HydraSports 230 Seahorse, very long bracket on these boats.

If your boat has a long engine bracket, go for it then, a matter to set bracket & engine height and trim correctly under error and trial at wot for best performance.

Happy Boating
