I've search the forum and haven't found my answer yet, so now I'm asking for help.
I just bought a 2005 Larson LXi 228 with a 5.0 MPI, Alpha 1, hydrofoil fin. I hit a rock with my stock prop, which was a 3 blade 19 pitch alum, which was good but still over reving at about 5400 rpms. It had ok pop out of the hole and good top speed. I will now list the props I have tried and the results.
1st was a Turbo 23 pitch 4 blade SS - This prop couldn't get the boat to plane, would hit about 3800 rpms and it would shoot to 5400 rpms. Like it was cavitating.
2nd was a Turbo 19 pitch 4 blade SS - This prop was awesome out of the hole, with 2 people and 35 gals it would plane pretty much instantly but I was still over reving at about 5200 rpms. My top speed was under 37 mph in about a half mile stretch.
I have read on here people hitting 53 mph with a 18 pitch 4 blade SS and I'm just confused because I can hardly get close to 38 with a 19 pitch 4 blade SS?
This weekend I'm going to try a high five 5 blade SS 21 pitch and see if that will keep me from over reving.
This is very frustrating because I've only had the boat a month. I just want a good all around prop that is great for tubing. I don't need to hit 55 mph but mid 30's seems a little crazy with a 5.0 MPI. Low to mid 40's would be fine with me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
