Hi guys,
My buddy just bought 2005 crestliner sportfish 1850 and powered it with only a 115(rated for 175max). I don't know what wot is for this motor and the marina he bought it at rigged it with a 19 pitch. He turns right at 5K at wot. What is factory recomended range on this motor?
He is less than thrilled with the holeshot and before I talk him into smarttabs I want to make sure he is propped right.
Thanks

I hate it when salesmen talk people into underpowering there boats. Could be his own decision though. That boat should at least have a 150 on it. MHO. I think its under proped also. a 17 would work better.

He needs to go to a 15", Bluewater. If it goes over 6000 then drop back to a 17"

Not certain about the Merc 115, but most of the 115 EFI 4 strokes range from 5200 to 5800 or 6000rpm.

I would shoot for 5800rpm WOT at least. That calculates to a 15", which makes sense for a boat rated for 175 and trying to get by on 115.

Good luck. :)

WOT is 5-6K RPM. rev limiter starts at 6200. try to prop it to 5800-6000. but your still way underpowered. its rated 115hp at 5500.

Hi guys,
I told him that 115 wasn't going to make him happy. I also told him that his new 4 stroke won't last like his old 2 stroke motor driving along at full speed ahead all the time.

I told him to take a pre-delivery ride. he didn't do it.

I told him to get at least a 150. He didn't do it.

I told him to get it with boat motor and trailer only. He didn't do it.
We both work for the navy and I am an ET and he is an antenna rigger.we would have no problems rigging a motorguide and electronics. I told him with the money he would save buying the boat bare he could afford the 150.

So instead he spent a ton on that boat all tricked out with a full electronic suite, down riggers and 85Lbs 24-volt motorguide. That boat rocks the way it is laid out don't get me wrong but now he's not happy with the performance.
This is not like it is his first boat.
He took 2 full years to pull the trigger on buying this boat. I just don't get it!

He didn't want to deal with selling his 1996 17ft starcraft so he told me to either give him 500 bucks for it or he was going to donate it.
I have been good friends with this guy for 10 years and his behavior still baffles me sometimes.

I have been a member on this site for a long time and lurked before that. I have passed on all the great things I have learned here to him and have posted questions in the past on his behalf. Oh well you can lead a horse to water............
Thanks for the info and I will tell him to call the marina and get a 17 pitch. because they rigged it wrong.
