New here. I have a 2005 Merc 200 with 228 hours on it that quit running last weekend and had to be towed in. I took it to the dealer I bought it from as it is still under warranty till 2011 (I thought!). After they tested the compression, number 2 and 3 cylinders are at about 50 PSI, all others checked out ok. After downloading computer, they said it had an overheat happened at about 226 or 7 and Mercury does not cover overheats! I never heard any alarm, but they said the alarms work. So my question is What should I do. It is gonna cost over $5K to fix with them. I do not have the money to fix. Should I call bank and let them repo it? Should I attempt to fix it myself? Or should I fight with Mercury? Any help would be appreciated.

Don't waste another call to the Dealer, go pick up your boat and bring it home.

Turn the key ON but do not attempt to start it, just listen for the 'Beep' from the alarm horn that indicates the self-tests completed and the alarm horn/buzzer is working.

If it does NOT Beep you have a better case to present to the Mercury Area Representative that you are going to call.

Hopefully the Factory Rep will be willing to take time with you to resolve this.

You may want to pull the temp sensors and test them. A failure of a sensor or the horn should make a great difference.

Yes that is just what I did, took my boat home (after $198) for "testing compression"! I am going to do just what you suggested. Test the beep and temp sensor. Thanks for another route. Hopefully Merc will be willing to at least talk.
