2005 Merc 50 hp 2 stroke ELPTO Questions

New to me engine couple of questions
1) starting is the key push function ( choke) a fuel primer ? Do you hold key in while cranking or pump key as needed to start cold engine ??

2) engine has power trim I would like to add a sender & gauge should this engine be drilled to take the sender ??

Hold key in while starting

dont recall if its drilled for sender but I believe there is a kit to attach it
