You don't say what type and length boat its going to be used on. Aluminum or glass?
If weight might be an issue . . . I had a new 2006 30 hp that weighed like 40 lbs more than the 2007 40 hp. So when I found that out I returned the 30 to the dealer and had him swap it for the much lighter weight 40.
2006 and earlier Mercs were heavy 4 strokes.
Check out the specs on the web between the various weights and model years.
See what the max hp rating is for the boat you are looking at. If you are looking to ski or have 4 people on board it might be difficult to get it up on plane with only a 60 hp. But it depends on boat.
