I'm looking at a 2005 Sea Pro 180CC, can't decide which powerplant to get. Standard from this dealer is a 90hp Johnson 2 stroke, but I can upgrade it to a 115 Johnson 2 stroke for $1300, or to a 90hp E-tec or a Johnson 4 stroke for $1800. I plan to use it in fresh and salt water for fishing or pulling the kids around on the tube.

Thanks for the help!

Howdy, Chris,

My priorities and my experience with Suzuki-built 4 strokes would lead me to the Johnny 4 stroke. . . 115 is same displacement, size and weight as the 90, so I would get that instead of the 90 if I could, without too much extra bux.

If the extra bux spooked me I would get the 90 2 stroke. I don't think there is $1300 worth of difference between the 115 2 stroke and the 90 2 stroke.

Suzuki DF 115 4-stroke would be a good alternative, DF 140 slightly faster but not much compared to the DF 115. The Suzuki DF 115 is a well proven outboard and it has EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection - almost is all cases a big plus).
Tests after tests has shown it is an excellent outboard.

Nice boat:
http://www.seaproboats.com/models/cc180.html

Just thought I could help you with your options on your SEA PRO 180cc. In 2003 I purchased a new 180CC and went with the DF140
4 stroke. I did have a problem with porpouising
when I had less than half a tank of fuel.
That problem was fixed with a prop change from a
14x17 to a 14x21. The 140 has a lot of power to get you going and the top end is 55 MPH. I looked at boats for 2 years and the SEA PRO seems to have better finishing and detail inside and out. Hardware is all stainless and built well. The things I would change, replace the front seat with a small round seat, this will give you a lot more room to stand when casting. If you use the boat for fishing get the wash down pump option and get the small side rails not the full one part rail as this will allow you to mount a trolling motor. AS far as motors go they are all good now, some do a little better that others but most problems are due to how they are used and taken care of.
Take a look at that 2 tone paint option on that 180CC. Looks really cooool. Dan.

Well' I got it, with the 115 Johnson 2s. Split rails, seat option for the bow, no paint. It runs great so far. Fit and finish is good. Lots of room in the console, plenty of seating for the kids. I've had it up to 35mph(gps). Once the break-in is over, I'll trim it out, and see what it'll do. Looks like the 17 pitch prop may be moved to the spare as I, most likely will need a 19.(once I see WOT, I should be able to tell)

If while planed out, it's harder to steer to the left than to the right, do I need to turn the trim tab above the prop a degree or so to the right to adjust?

As always thanks for the help!

I have the 186 with 115 4 stroke do not put a smaller engine on boat. It is heavy. Also mercury had this feature over 2K rpm it will put down the engine bad for running shallow with current mine is 07
