I just bought this engine a few weeks ago and it seems to overheat when running at full throttle. The light will come on and the alarm sounds. I run it three times and it runs perfect until I open the throttle for about 5-7minutes. I have changed the oil, new water pump, oil filter, spark plugs. I have the service manual for this engine as well, but I'm not sure what to check. The water coming out is rather warm and I can hold my hand on one side of the exhaust housing, but not the other because it is too hot. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks, Tyler

Pull the thermostat and test it to see what temp. it opens and how far it opens.Replace it if it does not act right or looks corroded. Look at the insides when you have it out and see how much build up is in passage and if they need to be cleaned Water pump probably needs to be replaced also

what about an over-revving problem? How would I go about troubleshooting this problem. Could I just lower the maximum throttle level? I haven't checked the thermostat yet.

You did not say anything about a over-reving problem so I do not know what is happening there. Possibly you spun the prop hub and need to have it replaced by a prop shop. The motor should not exceed the max RPM listed in the manual if it does then you have the wrong prop.
If you are having a overheating problem then change the water pump and thermostate and then go from there

Re: 2005 Suzuki DF15 seems to be overheating- alarm

The first thing I did was change the water pump and the thermostat opens at the right temp (140F) because I tested it last night. I was thinking that it was an overheating problem because the exhaust housing was rather hot. Upon further reading it seems that the alarm only goes off with low oil pressure and over-revving on my model. I adjusted the throttle control rod so that it is slightly shorter and will not open the throttle all the way to see if it prevents the alarm. I hope this isn't going to create another problem. Any tips would be greatly appreciated
