Hi all,

I have a 2005 Yahama F80BET that has been experiencing idling problems over the last 6 months.

Initially the motor was starting from cold with excessive revs. This would die back down to normal over 30s or so. In the last couple of months the motor is running rough at idle and stalls regularly, whether cold or warm.

I have had the motor serviced with no errors showing on the computer. I then have changed out the throttle and gear change cables. This week I had the battery checked and it is all fine.

Under power the motor runs as well as it ever has, so this is only an idling issue.

My local mechanic has offered to "take a look at it", which translates to booking up chargable hours until he sees the problem and can fix it. I would prefer to narrow down the potential problem before sending it in.

Any ideas? Air idle motor? Temp sensor? Throttle position sensor?

So I had a better dig around and have found a broken wire on the connector to the air idle motor. The red wire had broken and wires were sticking through the insulation. Pretty sure that will be where the problem is coming from, so now I need to figure out how to get it fixed. Hopefully a whole new loom won't be required!
