2005 Yamaha 50 ET 2 stroke. When I turn the key I hear electrical spark kind of noise coming from motor. Probably around starter or starter relay. Tried two different batteries both charged at 100%. Sparking noise will eventually stop then nothing like it is grounded out. I would have to disconnect then reconnect one terminal on the battery to get it to try and start again/make the same noise. I did get it to turn over once when I was fumbling with the wire harness coming out of the key switch behind the counsel then nothing.

I am pretty good at fuel/carbs mechanical areas but electrical kicks my *ss.
Thoughts?

What you are hearing may be clicking of the starter solenoid, Anthony.

That is most often caused by poor connections (that may look clean and tight) in the big cables from the battery to the engine.

Try taking them loose, cleaning them and reconnecting.

If that has no improvement, go to the Engine FAQs Forum and try the starter circuit troubleshooting in the "Outboard won't start" article.

Good luck, and let us know how you do. :)

Awesome. Thanks JB. I will try tomorrow. Yeah, I can't tell if it is a clicking or an arcing type noise but either way I figured a connection problem. But your right. All the leads look secure and clean. Battery terminal ones are dirty though with some corrosion on the positive.

Will clean and reconnect both ends tomorrow.
