I the 2006 15 horsepower Mercury with low hours,, bought it a couple years ago took it out once last year with zero issues.
let it sit for about a year and just recently I changed the oil
the filter, spark plugs and the lower gear oil. I then put the engine into a bucket so I could test it. upon testing I noticed a bunch of oil pooling in the water. I checked all the seals on my lower unit all the plugs I mean and none of them appear to be leaking so my question is what is this where is it coming from is it normal and what else should I check

That is normal it is just unburned fuel mix from the combustion process. Get it on a lake where it can get up to temp and it will be fine.

It takes about a teaspoon of oil in a tub to look like a lot as it all floats on the top. It could just be residual oil from the outside of the leg. Open the lower end drain screw for a second to see if water or oil comes out.

Ok you didn't say it was a 4 strk that's why serial #s are important they made both in 2006. Check the oil, It is still probably the exhaust.

checked the oil on lower unit, it was fine. but i did find the source of the leak. its coming from a gasket that looks like it holds the drain plug in place.
can this piece be replaced? or is there some type of sealant i should use here?

i dont believe its the drain plug gasket.. it looks to be coming from the foam around what the plug screws into

so i pulled off the driveshaft housing. the oil was definitely coming from the gasket. I tightened the plug and we will see if i see more oil on the driveway tomorrow.
btw anyone know what the torque spec for the drain plug is ?
