Hello. Just looking for hopefully some answers and direction on two issues i noticed with my 2006 Mercury 25HP, EFI, 4 Stroke, Outboard.
My motor was cutting out because my fuel bulb and fuel line were old and falling apart. I the process i noticed the inside of the hose was breaking down. I check the fuel filter and did see that it caught the material. I check the hose past the fuel filter into the motor and it looks clean. The boat had been running fine minus this issue that start the last time i went out.
I replaced the fuel lines from the external tank to the motor and in the process was looking to change the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, and lower unit oil.
ISSUE 1
When i remove the cowl i noticed an electrical cable had burned through the insulation and was starting to damage the other cables ,in i believe the emissions wire harness.
ISSUE 2
While tracing out the bad electrical cable i also notice a small bolt at the bottom of the unit in the engine compartment. I have some pictures and some extra pictures that might have contributed to the problem. Thank you for your feedback in advance.
