Howdy everyone! Looking for my first pontoon and wanting to see if I can get some help. I went to look at a 2006 Crest XRS II 2270 today and the boat looks pretty good. There's a seam that needs stitching up and a couple of cracks here and there and it looks like he got a bit too close to the dock at one time but overall it seemed to be in pretty good shape. It has a good bimini, a trailerable cover, and the changing room. The only thing that I could find wrong was the trim wasn't working. It has a mercury 115 4 stroke with 900 hrs that started up and ran really good. He agreed to get the trim working and have all the service brought up to date so that it would be 100% ready to go. We talked and $12500 with a trailer is the lowest I could get him. After looking around, it seems like a pretty good deal to me. Anyone have any experience with this kind of boat that I need to check out the next time I look at it?

Crest makes a good toon.

I'd just have him take it to a qualified marine mechanic to get the power trim fixed, and as them to scan the engine for any trouble codes, the actual hours usage and a printout of how many hours have been run at specific rpms. And it should be checked to see if there were any factory recalls, and if they'd been performed if that's the case.

You should ask the gentleman when the last water pump impeller change was, and ask for it to be changed if not within 2 years. The boat should also be delivered with fresh oil and filter.

And the lower unit should have a pressure and vacuum test to make sure the seals are good. They're a $300 repair if leaking.

These are proactive measures to be taken on any used boat anyone's going to buy.

+1 ^^^. Not a bad deal on a triple tube barge, although 900 hrs. !!! But if it all checks out, go for it. Good luck !!!

Part of the deal was to get all the maintenance done and the trim fixed by mechanic there at the marina. It is in a slip at Lake Austin and he has an onsite mechanic that is going to pull any codes and get them fixed. Impellar was fixed last may. Is 900 hrs really a lot? I figure that is just under 130 hours a year which doesn't seem too bad for a boat in a slip. Especially in Texas where we have 9 months of boating weather:)

Well, the guy backed out and added $1000 onto the deal. Needless to say, I backed out. If anyone knows of a similar deal in the central texas area let me know!
