Hi all,

Looking a purchasing a new boat in the 19-20 foot range. My wife seems to be sold on a 2006 Maxum 19 SR3.

I'm on the fence as one I looked at in the showroom didn't seem to have very good fit/finish (eg. trim pieces misaligned etc.) in comparison to some other brands. Layout seems fine, but attention to detail in the assembly process is concerning me. I did a 2005 Maxum in their showroom that did seem much better (unfortunately it had been sold).

Anyone have any good/bad experiences with relatively new Maxums (2005 or 2006)?

Thanks.

Re: 2006 Maxum Opinions

I have a 2000 1900 SC (cuddy) and a friend has a 2005 24 ft cruiser. I have had great experiences so far, he has too. I have a few little fit/finish gripes but nothing major. His boat is immaculate, he has not been able to pick out any "misses".

If this is your first boat, it wouldn't hurt to look at lightly used. I bought mine 5 years old for far less than 50% of original SALES price (not sticker). Mine had 75 hrs on when I got it and nothing but a couple of "dock dings" in the gel coat, interior was perfect.

On a side note, I have a friend up in Canmore that just got a 19 ft Sea Ray this summer and has sent me some pics, you guys have some beautiful lakes up there!

I see a lot of new Maxums, and I've seen some of the issues you're talking about. But it's minor stuff for the most part, nothing your dealer's service department shouldn't take care of if it comes up, especially if you're planning to buy new. For sure there are brands out there that do better with their fit & finish, but I think Maxum's a good boat for the money.

I got a maxum 2700SCR...so far it's been a great boat...fit and finish is pretty good but to be honest...most boats will have little nits and pic's....unless they are custom..your gonna have little fit and finish problems......:/
