Ok, so first off, hello everyone. I have used this forum before to solve problems and just want to say thanks for all the information.
i bought a 2006 25ft sun tracker pontoon boat with a 75hp mercury 4 stroke efi. I put it in the lake this spring and it started running rough right off the bat, (spit and sputter bog a little)I forgot to put fresh gas in so I assumed it was that. I put a can of sea foam and filled the tank with fresh gas and took it for a run after a while the low speed cleared up nicely but would chug bad when full throttle. I took the cover off and noticed the foam air filter had started to disintegrate and a 2 inch circle was completely missing (assumed it got sucked in). I called dealership told them what was happening and purchased the new and improved filter at the low price of 145 cad. The service guy told me not to worry about it just take it out at full throttle and it should clean itself out. nothing changed!. I pulled the boat out and took it to a marine mechanic to have it diagnosed he hooked it up (unfortunately I wasn’t there) and told me the high pressure fuel pump needed replacing. I ordered the high and low pump and installed them on the weekend hooked up the ears and it wouldn’t fire. I opened the reservoir again to see if a wire came off or something visible had happened and noticed the reservoir had no fuel in it so I thought like other pumps it needs fuel to prime, so I filled the reservoir and it fired instantly and purred at idle and low speed but did not fix the full throttle problem it still bogs and chugs and wants to backfire and quit. I also changed all the spark plugs. I checked the two fuel filters, meaning I disconnected them and could easily blow through them.
Oh and after running the boat on low speed it just won’t fire now I think maby the reservoir is empty again, I’m just waiting until the weekend to go back and trouble shoot some more.
Any imput you guys have would be greatly appreciated
thanks
