I have a friend that bought a 2006 Monterey 214FS Wt 3400 pounds Has a 14 x 21 3 blade stainless prop. Apollo Brand I think.Volvo penta SX Drive. Chevy Small Block 5.0 liter with 2 bbl carb Volvo 5.0 GL.. I have a 1992 Sunbird 20ft with 5.7 OMC Cobra. My Trim gauge moves vertical, top to bottom. Underway my prop does not break the water till I am way up to almost trailer position. His gauge moves horizontal, to the right is down and it moves to the left when drive is coming up. There is no indication as to where trailering position begins. His drive is definitely going down all the way. Problem is.. it starts to throw a rooster tail and begins to slip just to the left of 3/4 by the time its between 3/4 and the 1/2 way point, the prop is almost free spinning and speed drops. Another probably unrelated issue is the tach. We are moving along about 21 MPH at 2000 RPM and increasing to 45MPH brings the tach to only 3000 RPM but sounds like to me the engine is at WOT. I've purchased a diagnostic tach and I'm gonna verify the tach next week and probably find it is wrong. It is a Faria with hour meter. Ive read that Faria Tachs have calibration screw on the back so I may try that first.. I run a 17 pitch prop on my boat and It has a crazy good pull up for heavy wakeboarders. His boat is heavier and has little smaller engine and a 21 pitch prop but seems to me it takes too long to get on plane and bow stays high all the time. I was wondering is this characteristic of this type of boat? once we get the tach straighten out I was thinking he would benefit from a lower pitch prop for pulling his kid on a tube and my fat *** on a wakeboard and possibly a 4 blade for transom lifting and in the future maybe trim tabs??

Ayuh,...... Forget about the gauge, it's merely a reference, not at all accurate,...

The big rooster tail, 'n blow out says it's trimmed too high,.....

Once ya check the tach, you can determine whether it's over-propped or not,....

I believe the gauge to be accurate. Please reference the photo with the drive all the way down and the corresponding gauge photo. The drive seems to move throughout its course appropriately with the gauge matching the movement. drive 1/2 way up = 1/2 way up on gauge. When the gauge maxes out to the left the drive stalls and seems to be in the trailer position. This is new to me, most gauges I've seen have an area that indicates trailering position this one only indicate up on left and down on right, please reference photo in original post.

Ayuh,.... Because it Is,....

Regardless what the gauge says, when ya get the huge rooster tail, 'n loose speed, 'n thrust, yer in the Tilt range, outa the Trim range,....

Bondo stated all that is needed. If this was a Merc trim you would not get even close to where the drive would go that high without using the trailer button
