Hola!

I have searched all over the forums and the net looking for other Yamaha 90 owners that have had my same issue, with not a lot of results. It's mostly high end power loss that resulted from a fuel issue. My issue is that out of the hole the engine has no gitty up and go under any sort of load. With 2 people on the boat, it will creep its way up on plane and then once there, it will reach its cruising speed and top speed with no issues and in short order. It's extremely troublesome when trying to trailer the boat at the dock. It doesn't have enough juice to even get up the trailer bunks from a dead stop.

As a resolution I have heard everything from plugs to stator. To possibly a bad cylinder. I plan to drag the boat home to do the initial compression test. After that I am hoping its just a carb clean/rebuild.

In the past this site has always given the most knowledgeable answers to get fellow boaters back on the water. So fire away and I will provide as much info as I can to help you help me.

Boat Info:
1993 16' Cape Horn
2006 90 hp Yamaha
13" x 19 Pitch four blade prop
New gas tank(permanent), lines, bulb. Marine fuel only since install.
I have not trouble shot anything yet due to a busy schedule. Plan to start Saturday with checking the water separator and installing new plugs while i am doing the compression test.

Cheers,
Matt

more power means more fuel is needed to be burned.

timing also needs to advance to get the fuel to burn properly

all cylinders need good compression, along with good spark, correct timing too.
also the correct fuel to air ratio. test what you can and them chase the fuel to air ratio

Too much pitch may be a problem, is it really a 19 inch pitch, try a 16 or 17 if you can
