Having trouble inserting the shift rod after changing impeller any help would be appreciated

Believe that you must have controls and LU both in reverse on that engine when reinstalling the LU.

Do you have the maintenance procedure? If not do you have your s/n and I will give you a link to the maintenance procedure.
