 This motor has less than 20 hours on it and it has cut off on me 3 times. the first time it just cut off while i was moving along and when i went to start it back up it sounded funny and had no power wide open like it was only on 3 cylinders. i cut if off, started it back up and things went fine. then on two other occasions i was cruisin along and it shut off and was EXTREMELY hard to start. it would just crank over and over and over with no spit, sputter, cough, or anything. finally it cranked up after i thought i was going to wear my battery down. My latest problem is that the boat has sat up about 3-4 weeks with no use and after all the standard proceedure stuff to get a motor to start when it has sat a little while and the same thing happened as before.......crank crank crank crank......NOTHING. no spit, sputter, cough, or anything. all it does is crank over. any suggestions? is this a problem with the yamaha's? it doesn't necessarily make me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside when i'm 20 miles out knowing i've had an ignition problem before. I've never owned a yammy before, mostly all mercury's

need a bit more information.
what model number 150 are we dealing with ?
is this a new engine on an old hull or are both new?
new controls and rigging?
digital instruments or command link (depending on engine model number) ?

would it be safe to assume this is a 25" with oil injection maybe carbs? could be EFI or maybe HPDI ?
as you wont post the model number all I can say is normally we dont have much issues with genuine yamaha controls, I would lean more towards trash in the fuel.

It's an EFI. I haven't heard the best things about the HDPI or the 4 Strokes and i just think you can't beat a good ole carbed 2-stroke. i think i found the problem, I have a pretty long fuel hose going between my water separator and the ball, the hose is a little more flimsy than i'm used to seeing(came like that from the dealer), i think it was kinked up under the floor. She's running pretty decent now. Not sure if that had anything to do with the motor acting like it was on three cylinders though....i might think that was due to it still breaking in
