Hello again guys.

Today I went bass fishing with my son in his new to him 17.5' Tracker bass boat with the above engine. The tag on the cavation plate says 12"-22P 1.83-1. It is a three blade stock Merc prop. With the two of us aboard it would turn 5400 if he tweaked the tilt trim. I didn't look but I think he said it went about 20 mph. Does anyone know what RPM it should turn and a recommendation for a prop to get it there. Thanks!

the numbers 12:22 are not 12" 22P. That's the gear ratio. 22 divided by 12 = 1.83:1. Both sets of numbers mean exactly the same thing. They have nothing to do with the prop. That engine almost universally uses a 13P prop.

Thanks Silvertip.

I looked at the long number on the prop but didn't write it down. I kind of remember part of the number near the end was 14P or P14. Sounds like maybe that is 14" pitch. Do you know if there is a online place I can find the max rpm for that engine?

Take the hood off the engine and look at the ID tag. But I believe it's about 5500 RPM

Will do-thanks.

Bought a '92 15 hp Rude yesterday for my new 1448 Crestliner. I was suprised to see the max rpm for it was 7000!
