2007 Larson Volvo Penta trim gauge not working

Just bought this boat and the previous owners just had something done to the trim because the outdrive was not going up or down. Now the outdrive raises and lowers but the gauge is not working, they say it always did before. So my guess would be the repair shop didn't hook something up. I'm an automotive mechanic but have never worked on a trim system so does someone have some pointers on what to check. I though maybe the gauge was run by a cable but took a quick look up under the dash and only noticed wires going to the trim gauge. My boat is a 2007 Larson Senza 206 with the 5.0l.

Probably the trim sender has failed. They are notorious for this. I replaced mine but will likely not bother from now on.

You can test with an ohmmeter. The test description is in the service manual.

Yes I saw the prices for the parts, they are VERY expensive. But being a mechanic I just have to have everything working. Don't have a repair manual, can anyone give me the specs to test it. When I get home tonight first thing is I'm going to check and see if maybe they didn't plug the sensor back in, or maybe they didn't adjust it. Looks like the sensor has slotted screw holes to be able to adjust the position from the pics I have seen. Also will try to test the gauge and make sure it is good, it is stuck in the up position right now. Looks like you ground the g post and 12v to the I, Would this be a correct test for my sensor?

Would this one work to test the gauge?

Thanx for the linq. Think my problem is pretty easily diagnosed, went home last night and checked it out and the sensor is busted off the outdrive. Pretty sure that is my problem :) Google is your friend, found the sensor on ebay for less than $50 bucks.
