2007 Mercury 90hp oil quantity

I got a 2007 Merc 90hp 4 stroke..Just changed the oil..everywhere I looked it says 5.3 quarts..changed oil, new filter, dumped in 5.3 quarts and nothing shows on the dipstick..no leaks, everything looks good..what's going on?

5.3 quarts may not include the oil-filter's capacity

sounds like the filter filled up with oil & you need to add some.
If you added too much after; you'll have remove some, to bring it to the max level
