Hi All. I recently bought a new to me 2008 Four Winns H180 with a VP 3.0L. The engine only has about 30 hours on it. I know the previous owner only changed the engine oil in it and not anything else. Will be winterizing it soon and would like to know if anything should be done besides the normal oil change, outdrive lube change and winterization. I also have a few questions...

  • Can I just flush & drain the water from the engine without putting in antifreeze? If antifreeze is required, how do you get it in?
  • Is there a way to remove the fuel without taking it out on the lake & running it? It still has a little over a half tank of almost year old gas in it. The old gas was stabilized.
  • If I take it to get shrink wrapped, how do I get the outdrive back in the down position after trailering it back home without access to the interior and the battery disconnected.
  • What oil can I use besides VP 30W synthetic? I would rather buy a 30W synthetic from an auto store if there is such a thing.

As you can tell, I am also new to boating. I plan on replacing the impeller in the Spring.

Thanks!
Bob

Look up in the Adults only sticky, all kinds of Winterization information, and Volvo info.

Absolutely, antifreeze is not necessary.

You can hook up a cheap electric fuel pump from an auto parts store and suck it out of the tank.

Just remove the trim cylinders from the back of the drive and let it down by hand.

Use what you want. Head over to the Non Repair IO and Inboards forum and look at the other cazillion oil threads for that answer. It's a beat to death topic.

Thanks. I can't suck the gas out from the fuel filler since there is an anti-syphon valve in there somewhere.

Is there a way to siphon the gas out?

Hook the pump to the fuel fitting in the tank that goes to the engine.
