I just bought a new Pro Sport and want to add an on board charger for my trolling motor batteries which are between the consoles. The charger that I bought (pro mariner) says not to mount it on carpet, vinyl, or upolstered surfaces which just about eliminates all surfaces on the Pro Sport. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to mount it?

We ordered a charger with our boat. It was installed in the forward port dry storage area which is carpeted.

I'm thinking the reason for the mounting restriction is the amount of heat the charger puts out. I was surprised how warm ours was the first time I plugged it in, and since always make it a point to remove everything else from the compartment (paper towel roll, cotton towel, Type IV pdf, sweater, etc) before plugging the charger in. Oh and I also keep the compartment cover wide open during charging to vent the warm air.

Thanks, I kinda thought that is where is might go. Did they put it on the side of the storage area with the carpet? I thought I would mount a 1/2 inch piece of plywood there and attach the charger to the plywood for an insulator.

Our charger is mounted on what I might best describe as elevated end pieces. In other words, the ends of the unit hang down about 1/2" from the bottom of the charger, so there is a gap between the bottom of the charger and the carpet that allows air to circulate underneath. Perhaps you could simply have a strip of wood laying width-wise at each end and mount your charger the same way. -Ken

Use plastic spacers to mount the charger anywhere you like. If there is a 1 inch air gap between the charger and the mounting surface you are fine. A stack of metal washers will work as well. Lowes (and most good hardware stores) has all sorts of nylon spacers in various lengths and sizes in the drawers just as you enter the store.

Thanks for the replys. I went to Ace Hardware and picked up some 1" nylon spacers and some SS Screws and it worked out awesome, carpet barely gets warm.
