Doing some reading up on Yam maintenance including the maligned VST. Making sure I am understanding what I see in my parts diagrams. Is the VST the housing for the fuel pump? Or is my 09 got a different set up? Also, would it be good to go ahead and clean the tank and replace the filter as preventive maintenance? I have owned the motor for two years, it runs very well. Another thing, I have been looking at getting the Yamaha mini Fuel/Water separator unit. Is this a good unit, or is there a better 10 micron filter the gurus of iboats would recommend? Thanks for your time. This boat and motor was a big investment and I want both to last a long time.

If the VST has never been cleaned then it would be a good idea to do that.
VST is a Vapor Separating Tank, so that the fuel pump has good liquid fuel to pump.
yes a pump is inside of there.

there is a drain you can open to drain and flush fuel into a clean container to see what is in the bottom of it.
the screen/filter inside may need cleaning or replacing from time to time.
there should be a filter oon the motor that should catch most water and debris, but it never hurts to have an external one easier to get to and larger if you are getting water/debris from the tank

Thanks for the input, I have seen video showing how to drain the tank. I will do that and evaluate what the fuel that drains out looks like. Will determine whether or not taking the tank off for a thorough cleaning is necessary.
